Women's history is replete with stories of resilience, innovation, and leadership. From the courageous suffragettes who fought for women's right to vote to the trailblazing women in science, technology, and politics, women's contributions have been vital in shaping our modern world.
In celebration of Women's Month, KHCC hosted an inspiring and motivating career event designed to inspire young minds, particularly by introducing them to women from various industries, such as entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers, non-profit owners, and law enforcement. Our agenda was jam-packed, featuring introductions, a Q&A session, and group activities, including a speed networking workshop where students could ask more personal questions about navigating their careers.
The event offered a comprehensive agenda facilitating both large group introductions and more intimate speed networking opportunities, allowing students to delve deeper into personal queries about career navigation.
The event began with an introduction session where each panelist shared their job title and career insights. This was followed by an engaging exercise for the students, encouraging them to introduce themselves, share their aspirations, and articulate their future ambitions. This proved to be an excellent platform for students to gain confidence in public speaking and to express their diverse career interests, ranging from entrepreneurship to law enforcement. Notably, some students even took the opportunity to promote their own fledgling businesses, highlighting their early entrepreneurial spirit.
During the second half of the program, the focus shifted to a more interactive Q&A session where students posed thoughtful questions to the panelists, leading to meaningful discussions. For instance, a poignant moment occurred when a student asked Joi, a family doctor, about how she deals with imposter syndrome. Joi shared her personal experiences and coping strategies, emphasizing the importance of self-validation and recognition of one’s achievements.
This event was a resounding success, leaving both the students and the panelists inspired. The students were in awe of the panelists, women from diverse backgrounds who have navigated their careers with unwavering courage and determination. The panelists, being women and people of color, felt a deep sense of pride in their accomplishments. We extend our heartfelt thanks to these remarkable women from KHCC.
