KHCC Founder Named One of Five Finalists for 2019 WellCare Champion Competition

NEW YORK and TAMPA, Fla. (July 31, 2019) — WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), a leading provider of Medicaid and Medicare Advantage managed care health plans in New York, announces the finalists in its first annual WellCare Champions Competition in the New York City area and the beginning of online voting to determine the 2019 Grand Champion. The competition honors individuals who help children or older adults in the New York City area to live better, healthier lives.

All champions and their stories are featured on www.WellCareChampions.com. Community members can read about them and vote for a Grand Champion daily July 29 through Aug. 21, 2019.

Five finalists will be recognized as WellCare Champions during a Brooklyn Cyclones pre-game ceremony on Aug. 12. The 2019 Grand Champion will be announced at a New York Mets home game, where he or she will present a $10,000 donation to a chosen charitable organization.

“Each year, our WellCare champions finalists impress us with the inspired work they do in the community,” said John J. Burke, WellCare’s state president in New York. “Because they have done so much for their communities, it is only fitting that their neighbors get involved by voting for a Grand Champion.”

WellCare champions are New York area residents who are examples of how one person can make a difference in the lives of older adults or children. The champions program complements WellCare’s commitment to making a difference in communities by honoring individuals who share WellCare’s goals of improving the quality of life and maximizing access to services for their communities.

About Janet Atahanasidy

During the 1970s and 1980s when the Kingsbridge Heights neighborhood suffered from high crime rates and unrest, Janet and two other concerned mothers founded the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center in an abandoned police station. Today, the Center offers resources to Bronx residents from cradle to career. Janet’s work allowed the Center to provide programming that directly addresses community needs and empower the most vulnerable residents.
