Hello, my name is Tugba. I am from Turkey and I have been living in the U. S. for eight months. In Turkey, I used to work as a branch manager in the Ministry of Health. My husband was accepted as an anesthesia fellow at Montefiore Hospital, so we decided to continue his career here and for me to build a new career.
I believe the most important thing to learn a new language is to make it a part of your life. I try to learn the English version of everything I do in my daily life. For example, I look at the lyrics when I listen to music and try to memorize short sentences I can catch when I watch a movie. I also use phone apps to practice regularly.
I have two children, and most of my time is spent taking care of them. But one day, I decided to do something for myself and joined an English language course. At first, I was a bit nervous. I wasn't sure if I could continue the course, and I was in a community where people didn't speak my language. But in the first few minutes of the first class, I felt excited and happy. You don’t just learn the language here. You socialize and get to know different cultures.
Now, every week, I leave my children with their father and come here to do something for myself. I look forward to being in this beautiful environment. I encourage you to have confidence in yourself and be an inspiration to those around you.

Hola, mi nombre es Tugba. Soy de Turquía y he estado viviendo en los EE. UU. durante ocho meses. En Turquía, solía trabajar como gerente de sucursal en el Ministerio de Salud. Mi esposo fue aceptado como becario de anestesia en el Hospital Montefiore, así que decidió continuar su carrera aquí y para mí construir una nueva carrera.
Creo que lo más importante para aprender un nuevo idioma es hacerlo parte de tu vida. Trato de aprender la versión en inglés de todo lo que hago en mi vida diaria. Por ejemplo, miro las letras cuando escucho música y trato de memorizar oraciones cortas que puedo captar cuando veo una película. También usó aplicaciones de teléfono para practicar regularmente.
Tengo dos hijos y pasó la mayor parte de mi tiempo cuidándolos. Pero un día, decidí hacer algo por mí mismo y me uní a un curso de inglés. Al principio, estaba un poco nervioso. I No estaba seguro de poder continuar el curso y estaba en una comunidad donde la gente no hablaba mi idioma. Pero en los primeros minutos de la primera clase me sentí emocionada y feliz. Aquí no solo aprendes el idioma. Socializar y conocer diferentes culturas.
Ahora, todas las semanas, dejo a mis hijos con su padre y vengo aquí a hacer algo por mí mismo. Espero estar en este hermoso entorno. Te animo a que tengas confianza en ti mismo y seas una inspiración para quienes te rodean.

Ben Tugba. Türkiyeliyim ve sekiz aydır Amerika’dayım. Türkiye Sağlık Bakanlığı’nda
şube müdürü olarak çalışıyordum. Eşim Montefiore Hastanesine anestezi yandal uzmanı olarak kabul edilince o kariyerini burada devam etmeye, ben de yeni bir kariyer inşa etmeye karar verdik.
Yeni bir dil öğrenmenin sanırım en önemli şartı, onu hayatınızın bir parçası haline getirmektir. Günlük yaşantımda her yaptığım eylemin İngilizcesini öğrenmeye çaba harcıyorum. Müzik dinlediğimde sözlerine bakıyorum. Film izlediğimde yakalayabildiğim kısa cümleleri ezberlemeye çalışıyorum. Düzenli olarak pratik yapabileceğim telefon uygulamaları kullanıyorum.
İki çocuğum var ve hayatımın büyük bir kısmını onlara harcıyorum. Bir gün kendim için bir şey yapmak istedim ve İngilizce dil kursuna katıldım. Başlarda biraz endişeliydim. Hem kursu devam ettirebileceğimden emin değildim hem de dilimi bilmeyen bir topluluğun içerisindeydim. Ancak ilk dersin ilk birkaç dakikasında heyecanlı ve mutlu hissettim. Burada sadece dil öğrenmiyorsunuz. Sosyalleşiyorsunuz ve farklı kültürler öğreniyorsunuz.
Artık her hafta çocukları babalarına bırakıp kendim için bir şey yapmak üzere yola çıkıyorum. Bu güzel ortamda olmayı iple çekiyorum. Siz de kendinize güvenin ve çevrenize ilham kaynağı olun.
